Have you completed your PPL course and met the required 150 flying hours to take the next steps in your airline pilot career? The next steps for you are our Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) Class Rating. The MEP Class Rating is an essential course on your journey, and once you’ve obtained your MEP, you’ll be able to fly twin engine aircraft, and you’ll be well on your way towards obtaining your Commercial Pilot Licence.
The MEP training is a short, three week course which you can complete from Cranfield in the UK or Orlando, Florida with our world-class multi-engine Flight Instructors. We also offer you the opportunity to bundle your Multi-Engine Piston Class Rating, Basic Instrument Flying Module and Commercial Pilot Licence courses together at a discounted rate.

Multi-Engine Piston Class Rating entry criteria
To enrol on our Multi-Engine Piston Class Rating course you will need to meet the following entry criteria:
Experience
- Private Pilot Licence
- 150 hours flight time
- Passes in all ATPL Theoretical Knowledge exams
- Can be completed before or after your Basic Instrument Flying Module
Age and height
- 17+ to submit an application. 18+ to commence your MEP training
- Height between 5 ft. 2 in. (157 cm) and 6 ft. 3 in. (191 cm). Applicants outside of this may still apply for our MEP Class Rating module but will need an ergonomic assessment
Language
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Non-native English speakers must achieve level 5.5 individual and overall in IELTS or equivalent ICAO level 4 prior to start of training
Visas (depending on if you take this course in the UK or U.S.A.)
- Unrestricted right to live, study and work in the UK (e.g. UK national, EU national with settled or pre-settled status)
- If required: Meet the United Kingdom Visa & Immigration Service requirements to qualify for a Visitor (study for six months or less) or Student visa (study for more than six months)
- If required, obtain / be able to obtain M-1 Student Visa for your flight training in the U.S.A.
Medical
- Obtain / be able to obtain a UKCAA or EASA unrestricted Class 1 Medical depending on your chosen route. Read our guide here
