Completed your UKCAA or EASA ATPL Theoretical Knowledge exams and ready to start flight training? BAOAS has launched its 42 week Flying Start ATPL programme.
Courses start every month, so if you have successfully passed your Theoretical Knowledge exams this could be the quickest way to your frozen ATPL.
31 weeks of Flight Training in Orlando, Florida, is followed by 8 weeks of Advanced Flying in Cranfield, UK and 3 weeks of APS MCC training at our London Training Centre.

Flying Start ATPL timeline
Basic Flight Training, Orlando, Florida – 31 weeks
- Foundation flying: 18 weeks
- Single-Engine Instrument Rating: 11 weeks
- Multi-Engine Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL): 2 weeks
Advanced Flight Training, Cranfield, UK – 8 weeks
- Multi Engine Instrument Rating – 7 weeks
- Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT) – 1 week
APS MCC, London Training Centre, UK – 3 weeks
- Airline Pilot Standard Multi Crew Cooperation training

Entry criteria
To enrol on our Flying Start ATPL course you will need to meet the following entry criteria:
Theoretical Knowledge
- Passes in all 13 ATPL Theoretical Knowledge exams
Age and height
- 17+ to submit an application. 18+ to commence training
- Height between 5 ft. 2 in. (157 cm) and 6 ft. 3 in. (191 cm). Applicants outside of this may still apply but will need an ergonomic assessment
Language
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Non-native English speakers must achieve level 5.5 individual and overall in IELTS or equivalent ICAO level 4 prior to start of training
Visas
- Unrestricted right to live, study and work in the UK (e.g. UK national, EU national with settled or pre-settled status)
- If required: Meet the United Kingdom Visa & Immigration Service requirements to qualify for a Visitor (study for six months or less) or Student visa (study for more than six months)
- If required, obtain / be able to obtain M-1 Student Visa for your Flight Training in the U.S.A.
Medical
- Obtain / be able to obtain an unrestricted UKCAA or EASA Class 1 Medical. Read our guide here
